Now if someone can write "ને મસીહા (જીસસ)ના કેટલાંક શિષ્યો વળી સ્ત્રી સાથેના સંબંધને જ 'ઓરિજીનલ સીન' (પાયાનું પાપ) ગણે ", it is the duty of the સજ્જ વાચકો to find out how many are the કેટલાંક referred in the above sentence. how much is the percentage of these કેટલાંક? are they in majority or minority? can they be found in Gujarat or in some other countries? and sometimes these columnist write bible words (જીસસ) as if the bible was written primarily in English and there is no translation in Gujarati is available.

Objectionable Christmas Cards Distributed in Orissa

The distribution of an objectionable picture of Jesus Christ with a can beer and a cigar on his hands, printed in Christmas greeting cards in Koratpur, Orissa hurts the religious sentiments of Christians all over the world.

Our correspondent Rev Ashish Parida reported that amid the biggest festival of Christians, malicious pictures of Jesus Christ holding a can beer in one hand and a cigar on the other hand was distributed in different areas of Koratpur during the Christmas season.

It was alleged that Manohar Randhari, a local politician of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) distributed the cards on Christmas Day.

Tension gripped in several parts of the district as protests were staged by Christian groups against the hate- Christians Christmas cards. Prohibitory orders under Section 144 (joining unlawful assembly armed with deadly weapons) were clamped near the Church and along the national highway and 201 (giving false information to screen offenders) near the entry and exit points of towns. Additional police force was also deployed in the town, reported our correspondent.

Manohar Rabdhari said he didn’t check the image printed on the card, and that "it was a mistake by the printing press in Bhubaneswar which was printed hurriedly".


Christian vehicle burned on Christmas Day in Orissa

A group of miscreants on Christmas Day burned a vehicle belonging to a Christian worker in Phulbani, Orissa.

Our correspondent, Ashish Parida reported that suspected anti- Christian people set on fire the vehicle of Suranjan Naik in the hospital campus where the vehicle was parked. At the time of the incident, Naik and his wife were away in another area. As soon as the news reached Suranjan Naik, he contacted the Superintendent of Police of Kondhamal and fire brigade was called in to put out the fire.

According to some eye witnesses, a group of suspected Hindu extremists went to the hospital in Kandhamal where the wife of Rev.Naik works as Superintendent of Nurses. The extremists poured kerosene oil at the door of Naik’s house but later set fire to Naik’s car and left shouting aggressive slogans.

Police protection was provided to Naik’s home and office. Investigation is underway but no arrests have been made at press time.

Side note: Suspicions point to the radical Hindu Samanova Kui Samaj Samiti, because in a recent meeting that took place in the Kandhamal Rev. Suranjan Naik had clashed verbally with Lombodhar Kanha, Ksss leader in Kandhamal. In front of a government representative, Suranjan Nayak had harshly criticized Lombodhar Kanha, accusing his movement of creating problems and attacking peaceful Christians who only want to practice their faith. On that occasion the Rev. Suranjan Nayak had asked the authorities to take measures against the radical Hindus, reported our correspondent.


Pastor attacked in Karnataka

Karnataka police on 5 January arrested a pastor after alleged Hindu extremists attack him and seriously injured him in Davengere, Karnataka.

The incident took place at about 8:30 p.m on 2 January when the extremists barged into the prayer service conducted by Pastor Isaac Samuel in Akki Pikki normadic community.

Objecting to the prayer meeting, the extremists hurled an ax towards the pastor. The chopper fortunately missed the pastor’s head and hit his shoulder which grievously wounded him. The pastor was admitted in the hospital and he received dozens of stitches. The Christian filed a police complaint.

However, in response to the counter claim against the pastor by the Hindu extremists, the police arrested Pastor Samuel in a hospital under IPC Section 153A for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.

It was also reported that Pastor Samuel’s wife and his two teen children are an unfortunate witnesses to the ghastly incident. They were in terrible shock.


Police warns Christians not to conduct prayer meetings in Karnataka

Karnataka police on 24 December warned a Christian not to conduct cottage prayer meetings after alleged Hindu extremists opposed to the prayer meetings and accused him of forceful conversion.

Our correspondent reported that alleged Hindu extremists attacked the prayer meetings conducted in Sampath Kamath’s house and filed a complaint against him at Manipal police alleging that he is forcefully converting Hindu people to Christianity.

It was reported that area extremists’ leader identified only as Ratna has been setting up the local villagers to filed a complaint against Kamath claiming that the prayer meetings disturbed the neighbors. He also alleged that the Christian attempted to attack him one night bringing with him more than half a dozen people in an ambassador car.

The Christian filed a complaint against the extremists but the police warned him not to conduct future meetings in home for safety measures and also forced him to put in writing that he will not conduct such meetings in his home.


Pastor Kidnapped and harassed in Andhra Pradesh

Alleged Hindu extremists kidnapped a pastor and forced him to worship at a Hindu temple on 26 in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh.

Our correspondent reported that the extremists with their faces covered grasped Pastor Jonathan D from behind, pushed him into a vehicle and took him around for about 6 hours.

The next day, the extremist forced the Christian to enter a temple in a thick forested area and beat him up when he refused to go inside .However, the extremists forcefully took him in and forced him to bow down before the idols and to shout “Jai Shri Ram” while they continued to beat, verbally abused and threatened him.

However, the pastor was able to escaped on 28 midnight while the assailants were fast asleep. He walked about 15 kms and found a main road which leads to Gulbarga (Karnataka) and then to Patancheru, Andhra Pradesh and called his family.

His family and church members came to pick him up by auto rickshaw and returned to Medak.


Christian assaulted in Madhya Pradesh

Hindu extremists allegedly from the Bajrang Dal and Dharam Sena on 26 Dec 2010 attack a pastor, seriously injuring him in Damoh Naka, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh.

Our correspondent, Rev Akhilesh Edgar reported that evangelist Devanand Dandale was distributing gospel tracts when four extremists stopped him and questioned him from where he get his money and started beating him up. They kicked, punched slapped and pull his hair, taking rupees 4000/- from him.

According to reports, the money was borrowed from some friends in order to have some ready cash with him to meet the expenses of his pregnant wife, who is due for delivery any time within the next month.

Local dailies published the incident, stating that the convert Christian is forcefully converting people to Christianity

The Christian filed a police complaint against the attackers. His mobile phone was returned to him but the police have no clue as to where the money was.


Christians harassed in Madhya Pradesh

Hindu extremists from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh on 31 December 2010 attack a pastor and his church, seriously injuring believers in Lalbarra, Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh.

The incident took place when about 25 angry extremists barged in the worship meeting of Alpha Bible Church , took the Bible from Pastor Mahendra Nagdeve, tore it up and beat him and the Church members.

The extremists broke church furniture, sound system, church vehicle and took thousand rupees from one church member. The extremists also grasped one lady and put her head inside a bowl put on cooking stove. Fourteen members including the pastor were hospitalized.

The matter was reported at Lalbarra police station and a case was registered against the attackers. But no arrests have been made at press time.

Instil the scientific outlook and the darkness of superstition will recede like snow under the sun.
Whether Hinduism amounts to superstition and Christianity to rational religion is a different question; that's where Macaulay's limitations as a child of his time and his culture come in. Atheists in his country wanted Christianity to go down along with Hinduism, Islam and all other religions. But the dominant tendency was for the Churches to repackage their faith by incorporating some elements of the modern outlook and then ride the wave of triumphant colonization to propagate their message as the natural religion of victorious modernity. PANAJI: A 38-year-old Catholic priest lost his life after he rescued three youths, swept away by high currents at the Galjibag sea shore, 60 kms from here.

The incident took place yesterday when Fr Thomas Fernandes as a part of the group of parishioners from Nuvem village, had gone picnicking on the beach.

Eye witnesses reveal that a bunch of youngsters had ventured into the sea. As they were dragged in by the under current, the priest ran for rescue when the group cried for help.

The priest was rushed to the district hospital at Margao after he saved two young girls and a boy from the watery grave, but was pronounced dead by doctors on arrival.

"He collapsed after rescuing the youngsters. Desperate attempts were made to resurrect him but we failed," Savio Moniz, part of 56-member-group that went for annual picnic, told reporters outside the hospital here.

On Cheetah

The best thing I like in safari is the articles on animals and plants. The unique characteristics of all the animals and plants are simply awesome. Safari maintained the legacy with the article on cheetah. Sad to know that this precious and unique animal is going to be extinct.
Safari explains the reason for this. Some thousands years back there was a natural calamity and many cheetah died. After this the gene pool of the cheetah became constrained. Because of small gene pool they didn’t get the better genes which would help them survive. So slowly their numbers reduced and now they are near extinction. I’d call this theory “extinction of the weakest”.
Now this theory makes sense in all the theories of origin of species except one. Now some of the theories I know are as follows.
1) Theistic evolution held by some Christians (species evolved, but god helped them to evolve). Now if God was part of the evolution process in past and is not now, the evolution might be stopped. So the constrained gene pool will result in weaker genes and the species will go extinct.
2) Intelligent design theory propounded by many Christians and Muslims (nothing evolved, everything is designed). The species were designed from the beginning to live in some specific environment. After the specific environment is unavailable, the species will have difficulty surviving. E.g. Cheeta, Australian frogs. Converse is true also. If the environment doesn’t present the size limiting measures the specie will abound. E.g Ganda Baval of Gujarat.
3) Survival of fittest/Random mutations/chance theory (everything evolved by random mutations without interference of any external entity). Now this theory has real problems. Living things try to change themselves according to the surroundings and in the process they evolve. The cheetah itself is evolved as part of cat family from a different cat in past. Now if cheetah can come into existence because the earlier cat specie adjusted to the surroundings, why can not cheetah adjust themselves to the surroundings? Cheetah should have acquired the needed counter-mechanisms to survive if this theory were considered true and applicable in this case.

Blame it on conversion!

As of 13th September the violence to Christians in Orissa is as mentioned at http://www.efionline.org/articles/1620.htm.

Apart from the murders and raping and burning and bringing down buildings in Orissa, there was violence to Christians in Karnataka also. In Mangalore police lathi charged on Nuns! One can only wonder how such things can happen in a civilized society.
But there are people who defend such barbarism. Their standard technique is to invoke ‘conversion’. When churches were burnt in Gujarat in 1999, then prime minister AB Vajapayee came to Gujarat to visit the affected areas. Instead of focusing on finding the culprits and punishing them, he asked for a “national debate on conversion”. Now if the prime minister himself indirectly says that because of conversion such things are happening, you’d not expect state government to do anything. And state government didn’t do anything. Same technique was deployed by current chief minister and home minister of Karnataka state. The home minister even went on to say that the violence happened because of conversions and insulting language used for Hindu deities. He didn’t offer any proof for either of those outrageous claims. The violence to the Nuns or stoning and destroying parts of church building is OK if there is a feeling that conversions are going on. In 90’s in Gujarat bibles were burnt by some violent outfit and then home minister of state, publicly (on TV) justified the burning of the bibles. So the motto of these politicians is “blame it on conversion”. If some Christians are beaten or murdered or burnt alive or raped, it is simply because of ‘conversion’. What a way to defend the barbarism!
I’m not going to play in the hands of such politicians by discussing about conversions. It is an important issue, but not now. For now important issue is violence. Law and order. I’m concerned about the families who’ve lost someone. I’m concerned about the woman who was raped and about her family. I’m concerned about people who’ve lost their property, people who’ve become homeless, kids who are hungry (even relief camps were attacked and food stolen, in presence of police).
So the question is: Some people go and destroy a church building and beat other human beings. Should criminal proceedings be initiated against such persons? If women are raped (gang raped in recent case), should the perpetrators of the crime be brought to the law or not? Should home minister make completely false accusations when people are asking him to bring law and order? Or is it that they internally support such violence but find some false excuses to evade the responsibility? (Actually Karnataka never witnessed such barbarianism before current government came into the power).
As an Indian think this through. Can a citizen in free India be made homeless, property-less and fearful just in a blink of time? That’s not like India. Pakistan never threw Hindus out officially. But the administration looked the other way when majority Muslims were dominating over minority Hindus. I don’t know what all happened from 47 till now, but the numbers speak that population of Hindus in Pakistan is very low now compared to in 47. Are we going to become like Pakistan? Or like Kashmir valley?

Report on violence in Orissa.
A. Number of People Affected:
It is estimated that over 50,000 people have been rendered homeless due to the violence. Around 13,000 people are in the relief camps at Chakapada, Tikabali, G. Udaygiri, Raikia, Baliguda, K.Nuagoan and Phiringia. Many others continue to hide in the forest and elsewhere.
B. Number of Schools and Colleges Affected: 12
* De Paul School bus burnt in Ganjam District.* School & hostel attacked in Bargarh District.* William Carey School attacked in Jatni, Five school buses were broken.

* The mobs in Balliguda, Kandhamal caught hold of two boys of the Catholic hostel and tonsured their heads.
* Father Edward was doused with petrol and set on fire but managed to escape.
* No less than 18,000 Catholic have been beaten up in Kandhamal alone according to Archbishop Cheenah.
* Rev. Thomas Chellen, undergoing treatment at a Catholic hospital in Bhubaneswar, India, a Hindu mob lead by VHP nearly set him on fire.
* A nun named Mina Barua was raped Nuagaon in Kandhamal and Father Thomas Clave was paraded naked. Fr Thomas, director of the Diocesan Pastoral Centre in Kanjimendi, Bargarh and another Nun were injured when the centre was attacked. They were taken to the police station in a disheveled state as the armed mob bayed for their blood. So you rape women if you don’t like some people getting converted to some religion, huh?
G. Number of Houses, Shops, Villages destroyed
* Around 1,800 houses have been destroyed in Kandhamal alone.
H. Reconversion
♦ Fundamentalists are roaming in the whole of Kandhamal dist &threatening the Christians to reconvert. Otherwise they will be killed. 5 families are forcefully reconverted in Adaskupa, Kandhamal( near Udaygiri).♦ Christian leaders said Hindu activists had forced about 3,000 Christians in riot-affected parts of the state to renounce their religion in the past few days. ♦ Reconversion drive is underway in different villages of Kandhamal namely Bogapada, Boriguda, Kutti Guda, Danniguda where 70 famililies have been brought back into Hindu fold. (Info received as on September 9).
And it is frequently said by Hindu friends that they consider all religions are equal!!!
I. Relief Camps attacked
* The Government Relief Camps set up at Vijay High School Raikia block, Kandhamal reported that drinking water was poisoned on 3rd September 2008.
* An attempt to poison the drinking water source of the relief camp in Habaq High School, Relief Camp at G. Udayagiri, Kandhamal was foiled by an alert security guard at 9 pm on 2nd September.
* On Sept 4th a group of nearly 2500 Hindutva extremists barged into the Relief Camp at Tikabali Govt. High School shouted at the Christian refugees and took away supplies meant for the Christian refugees, while police were silent spectators to the event.
Think of that...even relief camps are not safe!
